Having announced it in last week's show, The Native Immigrants finally hosted their very first Radio Show this week on Newcastle's Spice FM! They somehow evaded the censors and red tape to deliver TWO hours of non-stop conversation, whilst keeping the local community entertained with plenty of discussion. On the show, they spoke about Jyojo B being back in her hometown, the correct pronunciation of Geordie slang, buying a car, which samosas are better and who'd be the best person to play an Asian Doctor Who. Also with the BritAsia Awards happening this past week, they discuss who won what, and ask what's happened to the Urban Asian scene in the UK. Did it peak too early? It’s been International Podcast Day this week, so Swami Baracus and Jyojo B celebrate this special day with a milestone 25th episode, packed with plenty of discussion and dissection! This week, they review Crazy Rich Asians, give Charanpreet Singh Lall a telling off, discuss who to look out for in this year’s The Apprentice, and reminisce about Geoffrey from Rainbow… Also, there’s not one but TWO special announcements. One of them potentially more special than the other… but it’s all subjective! Listen in and PLEASE subscribe/rate/review us... to stop the Man shutting us down! Episode 24 - B4R4CU5 (Bodyguard Review, Gender Bias & Abortions)
Wednesday Sep 26, 2018
Wednesday Sep 26, 2018
The Native Immigrants are back to their regular weekly slot after some hi-jinx and hiccups, and get stuck into some hot topics of agenda and cultural gupshup! Having been left anxiously awaiting the series finale of Bodyguard, the married marauders look back at the thrilling climax of this highly popular drama series. However, were they left craving for more or had all the stereotypes once again been left exposed? This week's main topic is Gender Bias and Abortion in our communities. After Labour calls for ban on early foetus sex tests, they ask why is the abortion of girl babies still so prevalent in our communities, and the reasons for this happening. Honourable mentions for Laurel and Hardy, St. Bernard Dogs, nice cars, Mellzo and Parle Patel! Listen in, share your thoughts and PLEASE subscribe/rate/review us... to stop the Man shutting us down! Fresh from a two week break, rejuvenated and revitalised, the Native Immigrants unleash a bumper packed show with no arguments in sight! This week, they look back on visiting not one, but TWO festivals! Firstly the Asia House Bagri Foundation Literature Festival, where they saw their friend Nikesh Shukla in conversation with Nish Kumar. Here they heard about racism and diversity, whilst afterwards heard what 30 means now and also Rita Masi's quirky wisdom! They also went to the London Podcast Festival, to hear from other podcasters about their experiences and advise. Also, they touch on the Great British Bake Off, Bodyguard, and more cultural phrases that literally 'blast the mind'! Episode 22 - Kuntdeep (Communalism In The Asian Community)
Wednesday Sep 05, 2018
Wednesday Sep 05, 2018
All is not rosy in the Native Immigrants household, as Jyojo B and Swami B have had a tiff... meaning they had to delay recording the show this week! But fear not, they managed to put their petty grievances aside, to ensure this week's new episode made it out in time... just. This week, they visited the Bhaktivedanta Manor during this past weekend's Janmasthami festival, where Swami B was not volunteering for the first time in 20 years! They also look at the Asian invasion in this year's Great British Bake Off. The main topic though this week, is Communalism within the Asian community... why have we segregated ourselves from each other, and why is their still discrimination between our communities? Episode 20 - Coconut Kaleerein (London Mela, Education In The Asian Community)
Wednesday Aug 22, 2018
Wednesday Aug 22, 2018
WARNING - EXPLICIT LANGUAGE USED. Landmark show number two.... The Native Immigrants have reached Episode 20! This past weekend, the gruesome twosome were invited down to the London Mela, where they enjoyed the sights and sounds of one of the premier events of the British Asian community. Together with indulging in some tasty treats, they talk about schmoozing with artists and media backstage as well as checking out a great exhibition on the history of Southall bhangra and culture. We also touch on Priyanka Chopra's recent engagement, and ask is it even anyone's business? This week's other big topic is Education within the British Asian community. With so many students being pressured into taking up a vocational career by their families, we look at the reasons behind this, why students adhere to their families rather than following their passions and our own experiences of student life. WARNING - EXPLICIT LANGUAGE USED. Back from a sun-baked week in Santorini, Greece, The Native Immigrants are back to our rainy shores with a new episode! Swami Baracus celebrated his big 40th birthday during the holiday, so together with feeling old and decrepit, he and Jyojo B look back on BBC's Big British Asian Summer of programming this week, and review the shows - what worked, what didn't? This week's other big topic is Boris Johnson. With his remarks about the Burka in his recent article in The Daily Telegraph, we ask is this racism or is it satire? What impact does these words have in wider society? Listen in, share your thoughts and PLEASE subscribe/rate/review us... to stop the Man shutting us down!
